Zac Efron earns a lot of money stepping in Kevin Bacon's shoes for 'Footloose' remake

Zac Efron is set to earn £5 million for starring in a remake of hit 80s film 'Footloose'.

The 21-year-old star will play Ren McCormack, originally portrayed by Kevin Bacon, after movie bosses were impressed by the incredible success of his latest film 'High School Musical 3'.

Kevin has given the remake his blessing, saying: "I think it's a great idea. He's a great choice. He's very talented."

The film has been pushed forward in order to capitalise on the popularity of the Disney film franchise, and will see Zac once again teaming up with Kevin Ortega, director of all three 'High School Musical' films.

'Footloose' is scheduled for release in 2010, and will include new material as well as some songs from the original movie, such as Bonnie Tyler's 'Holding out For A Hero'.

Ortega recently revealed Zac would be his ideal choice to star as Ren, saying: "I think he'd be the perfect, perfect, perfect candidate to step in. I mean he's got this global excitement, this wonderful know-how.

"He's the perfect age, so versatile, and talented and dynamic. You know it's hard for me to even imagine anybody that I think would be more perfectly suited."
